9/30/02 Hi all Joe Scelza here appointed in 1965 retired on disability in 1976.  Since leaving the job i have lived in the Pocono’s, Bushkill to be exact.  Then we moved to Phoenix, Az. My wife Patricia worked for a while but now we are retired and our four kids live here in the valley with our 8 grandkids ranging in ages 8-16. Just turned 60 this year and celebrated 40 years of marriage and life couldn't be better.  Jerry Fallon and I are in business and we have purchased some toys to play with together. We had a Four Winns cabin cruiser we ran all over LAKE POWELL for 5 yrs. and took it to Alaska on what could be our last great adventure. We put it in the water in Laconner Wash. and motored up to Juneau and back 2500 miles on the ocean what a thrill that was, oh by the way we named the boat "ON THE JOB". We sold it a little over a year ago and bought a Pinzgauer which is an Austrian made 10 passenger troup carrier 4 wheel drive crazy car that will drive up a tree if it is wide enough so we have been busy running it up trees and hills and rocks all over Az. Colorado. and New Mexico.  If you are interested in pictures and information log onto pinzgauer.com.  Anyone who would like to contact me please feel free I would love to here from you my e-mail is joescelza@cox.net. Plan on being at next years reunion looks like a lot of fun. My best to all> forgot to mention most of my career was in Dist 22 on 8P's and Midnights. Transit Forever .JOE AND PAT SCELZA

Hi, My name is Roy Moren and I was with the Transit police from 02/74 to 06/75 when I was laid off due to the budget problems. I was assigned to Dist 4 on the 8P/4A shift. I lived on Staten Island my entire life. I moved to Tampa Florida in Jan 1976 and have been here ever since. Although I was out of law enforcement for 8 years, I decided to go back and was hired by the Hillsborough County Florida Sheriffs Office where I still work today. I enjoyed the short time I was with the Transit police and still have my uniform in the attic. I even occasionally try the summer blouse and RMP jacket on. (It’s funny how that stuff shrinks over the years).I plan on working a few more years as I have it good here. My son who is 20 years old is getting ready to go to the academy and can take over as the family cop.I would enjoy hearing from anyone who I worked with or went thru the academy with.

07/11/02 -  Leslie Berrent, Joined TPD April 65. Retired Oct. 86 as a Sergeant. Started in old Dist. 6 Then to Dist. 23 (Rockaway) for the good life. In the mid 70s found even better TPD life with the 8pee's in D-24 worked with some of the best TPD had, what a great time these were. I'm still in contact with some of the fellows  Lt. MacBarnette, Murray Oback, Morris Sam, George Epstein, David Ginsberg, Irv.Kest, we all live in Florida, fairly close to one another ,We get together from time to time for dinner with our wife's and still tell the same  war stories. I am a  Member of the 10-13 club of Broward County where a lot of guys from Transit are members.  At meetings I guess from habit we just happen to sit in the back of the room( joke) I can't say enough of the TPD it was a great time, we seem to appreciate more as time goes by. My whole career all we heard was the merge was coming and 30yrs to the day I was sworn in it happened. But like we always said there is life after Transit. Any one who wants to contact me my e-mail is Lab587@prodigy.net

07/08/02 -   Hi guys, My name is Bob Ballrd Jr., Class of May '74. I worked in Dist 4, 8p's, with a "Great Bunch of Guys" until June 30,1975 when I was laid-off. The lay-offs were a low point in many of our lives, after 11 months the Transit hired me as a bus operator & I was transferred to Staten Island in 3 months. When they called me back, they were always saying Dist 11 or 12. It was a hard decision to make to stay as a bus driver but thats what I did.

So what have I done in the past years? Well I spent over 29 years in the National Guard (retired in Oct. 99) & was "activated" during Desert Storm, I became active in my Union serving for over 15 years as a Shop Steward, Executive Board Member & Recording Secretary. Currently I am impatiently waiting out the age so that I can retire, I'm Tier II & have 27 years of service but not the age.

Unfortunately I was a block away from the WTC on 9/11 and I saw things that I could never have imagined. I mean of all the dirty, nasty, filthy things that went on in the "hole" paled in comparasion to what transpired that day. I have included a link to view the destruction of the Cortlandt St (IRT) station--->
http://www.subwaywebnews.com/cortlandt.htm

I am a Community Board member ( 10 years) and serve as a director ( 7 years) for a local not-for-profit organization that raises money for youth groups here on Staten Island. We started by producing World Class IPRA sanctioned Rodeos here in the City. I plan to retire somewhere out west, somewhere where the humidity is in single digits.

I looked at the pics of the reunions for a familiar face or two, but alas we all have changed over the years. I was really just getting comfortable with the job when the lay-offs came. I mean I really liked riding " The Beast" north & south, standing on the New Lots station & being able to sway with it when the trains arrived, riding the J & E to queens or the A to bklyn or the AA to 168th. I worked with so many Great People & I have always wondered what they were up to. I used to bump into a few of you at Medical, Jay st when we shared the same "horse doctors".

If anyone would like to contact me write me -
hawk726@aol.com

06/17/02 – LOUIE PAGAN.  HEY LOU ALWAYS A PLEASURE TO VISIT YOUR WEB SITE.  I WAS APPOINTED TO THE T.P.D OCT. 7, 1968 AND RETIRED AS A SGT IN OCT. 13, 1988.  NOW LIVING IN PORT ST LUCIE FLORIDA.  I ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO ATTENDING THE REUNIONS.  I CAN WAIT TO SEE YOU GUYS THERE THIS SEPTEMBER, GOD WILLING.  SINCE 1995 I'VE BEEN WORKING FOR THE PORT ST LUCIE POLICE DEPARTMENT.  I ALSO HAVE A SON THAT'S ALSO A POLICE OFFICER FOR SAME DEPARTMENT.  BOY, ONCE A COP, ALWAYS A COP.   GOD BLESS

6/15/02 - Carol Sciannameo -Lou, as usual, a very innovative site, thank you for your endless commitment to keeping us all in touch.   I am living in Gulfport, Florida and currently teaching five online computer courses for St. Petersburg College in the SEPSI Police Academy.  Finally got that job that Jack Maple said I would enjoy, "a job where you stay home and collect a check."  He was pretty insightful as even I  never thought I could teach from home over the computer and get paid,  it is great.  Have been doing lots of boating, enjoying the  "paradiselike weather," and caring for my three English bulldogs, one samarai shitzu, three parakeets, two cockatiels and a baby parrot I rescued from the road.  Always missing my friends and family at Mother Transit!

06/03/02 - Jim Seals here.  Thanks Lou for the return phone call.  I just recently learned of your organization and have contacted several retired officers that I used to work with. I could only do that through information I received from your web page. Your website is the greatest.  I retired in eighty-six, moved out Midwest where I took a job with another police department, worked there from eighty-six till December of ninety-six.  Went from Deputy Marshal, to Shift Commander, to Lt., to Chief Deputy.  Have always driven trucks part time.  Even while working in N.Y.C.  I pulled containers off the piers, did the same thing here.   I have a C.D.L. license.  Also I am a licensed public school teacher and taught English as a second Language as well as the G.E.D. program for adults.  I remember very well the day our class graduated from the academy.  We were told then by one of the speakers that, " Remember Men, you are the Marines of New York City."   And we were.

05/30/02 - Floyd Holloway.  "TRANSIT COPS ARE TOPS",  I said that back in 1964, and I have repeated it time and time again and will probably do so forever or at least as long as I live. I joined the T.P.D in November of 1964 and I retired in December of 1990. Like many I hated to see the merge because I knew then that a great department would be ruined. Louie, I want to thank you and the Reunion Committee for doing such an outstanding job and believe it or not I look forward to seeing you and all the gang every year. I would like to thank the guys and gals for affording be the privilege and honor of representing them as their Delegate at Large, 2nd Vice-President and 1st Vice-President of your PBA for an unprecedented 23 years, especially those of you that were assigned to Dist. #1.

Ironically, I am still working in Albany fighting the fight, trying to protect police officers and our retirees.

05-25-02  Artie Corr - Started there in 1970 and left in 1986 and it went too fast.   Your efforts and energies are more then I could have ever expected.   Thank You.  I am still living in New Jersey ( SHH, you never know who is listening) enjoying life and good health. I am happily married, Finally, and currently a Lost  Prevention Supervisor, with the emphasis on the Lost. I am happy to mention that recently i met Joe Oliveri,  Jimmy Stavola, and Lance Wegner, all looked great and yes the war stories were exchanged

05-02-02 – Chet Levey Dear Lou, What a great service ! Thanks. Currently a Lieutenant in Queens Narcotics Squad...still having fun after almost 31 years. I serve on the Lieutenants Benevolent Association Board as the Marshal. Glad to help anyone that I can.Take care. Chet Levey.

Most of my children are still in New York and are all married, as well as other members of my family. I left the job due to a injury I received to my right arm on Nov. 1981. I keep active by art painting, My agent has gotten me work on "Spin City" and recently submitted my photo to the "Spranos"  Thanks guys for offering a new stage name" Tommy Pastrami”, I don’t think that going to get me the job. Thanks Angelo Calabrese for use of "Botz" I’ll let you all know what happens

05-14-02- Hi Lou, My name is Julio Campuzano and I just heard from my old partner Steve Harrison about this site. Saw some old names and they brought back some great memories. I was lucky enough to start my career in the Transit Police back in 1980 and was stationed in Dist 3, a great place to learn the job. Then was fortunate enough to play softball for Headquarters with Bobby Val, Gandini, Ronnie Roland and all the other guys. I rolled over in 1983 which was one of my hardest decisions I ever made but it worked out. I am now retired and doing well. Thanks again for this site as I hope to get in touch with the old 3 house members that I haven't seen or spoken with in years. My email is JC852@AOL.Com

05-13-02 – Andy Moschetto- Hi Lou, I just went through your entire web page, and got this real warm feeling reading and remembering what a close-knit job we were on. I have lived and worked in Arizona, Florida and Vermont since my retirement from the “job” and never have I experienced or seen such kinship as we experienced in all our years as Transit Cops. I felt this kinship at the last reunion, and feel it when reading your web page. You’ve done a great thing, and it is much enjoyed and appreciated by all who read it. See you in September! My e-mail address is cityhawk@optonline.net    Best regards, Andy Moschetto (now living back in New York-Elmont)

retirement, forced off of the Job because of an artery problem in right the
leg, I found myself one cold and bitter night on patrol (literally) walking
in a circle when right leg froze up.  I knew it was time to retire when after
chasing a perp I fell down a flight of stairs landing on the platform look up
at this perp who came back to assist me thinking I had a heart attack.  We

in them because of the training and discipline.  I had great fortune and
success in the Real Estate, Retail, Mortgage lending, Food (Cafe), and now
the gaming industry (Dealer for Sterling Casino Line, Cape Canaveral, FL) My
wife and I are also travel agents and having fun booking land and sea trips.

3/5/02 - Tommy Dowens, Finally fixed my 'Outlook Express'. Lou - As I have said in the guestbook - You've done a great job on this website, and you've done a great service to the Transit Police Department. I retired in '98 after 29 years. I would have stayed 40 years, if it weren't for the merge. Transit was my life and I loved it.There is life after Transit and even NYPD. I'm working security for Orange & Rockland Utilities, it's a job to pay for the kids (2) college education. My son will graduate from St Joseph's University (Philly) in May and will be commisssioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force. My daughter is a sophamore at Quinnipiac University(Hamden Ct.) So I have at least 2 more years before I can really retire and join the Reunions in Florida. For now, I try to attend the Dist.12 luncheons (about 1x 4 months) and keep updated that way. Please give my Email address (tpd32@hotmail.com) to anyone who would like to corespond. Thanks again for all your efforts on our behalf and keep up the good work!!!!!       Tom Downes

03/01/02 – Ted Dempsey, I was appointed in December '80 and retired in Dec 2000 as a LT. Special Assignment.  I worked in District 3, 33, 23, 33 again and Communications.  After the merge I worked in the Office of Technology and Systems Development on 9-1-1.  After I retired I took a position with a New Jersey consulting firm, iXP Corp.  I am presently working as the Project Manager for the renovation of the Fire Department's Central  Offices (Communications).  I certainly miss the Transit PD and the only reason the Fire Dept. likes me is because I was Transit. The Transit Police gave me the opportunity to learn a new "trade" and have a second career.  If we hadn't merged I would have stayed forever, but.......   I'm having a great time now.  Married with two great kids who keep me running.   We have an office in the Empire State Building on the 42 nd floor.  We all witnessed the terrible tragedy of 9-11.  It looks so strange now.  My company was instrumental in maintaining 9-1-1 services during the disaster.  The 9-1-1 "telephone switch" was in the building next to the Trade Center and took a major hit.  We worked with Verizon to make sure NYC never lost 9-1-1.  I miss the Transit Police and love this site.  It's a great way to keep in touch.  I have already received several e-mails from former Transit Cops.  Keep up the good work. Ted Dempsey 516-541-2251

03/02/02 - Ed Merrill from class of 67, dist 4 and 20.   Retired in 88.  Still
living in Holbrook, LI. Have to stay and keep my wife happy. My son
David works in Dist 20.   Daughter Claire lives in Yonkers.   A heart
attack and a few strokes can't keep me down.  I'm doing fine.    This is
a great site.   I get together with dist 20 retirees for occasional
dinners during the year set up by Walter Nunns.  Anyone interested in
joining in, contact Walter.    Stay healthy. Here's my email.  June and Ed

03/02/02 - I’m Dennis White retired 9/81 on ord. disability. I worked in 1A,5,33 and the
big 1.I now work as a letter carrier for the USPS at the Times Square
station. I will retire from the USPS this summer. My brother, John told me about
this web site. It is great. John is a Sgt, s/a in ESU, out in Flushing. He loves
it. I see a  lot of guys in the Times Square area, working security. It’s nice to
see people you used to work with. I will always remember;" Transit Cops are

02/26/02 - My name is Harry Harris and I want to thank Lou for this wonderful site. I recently  had a serious health problem and was in the hosptial when word got out through the web site and in true Transit Police tradition I had calls and cards from guys that I had worked with and had not seen in years. This had such an uplifting feeling that I belive gave me to will to overcome my problems. To all the guys that called "THANK YOU FOR THE BACK UP"   As promised I now have a computer and my E Mail address is Harryg145@aol.com please keep in touch. Thanks again.

02/22/02 - HELL0 FROM CARL LYONS, DISTRICT 33, CWPS. IT WAS GOOD TO SEE YOUR WEB SITE. SOME OF THE NAMES I RECOGNIZED, OTHERS I DIDN'T. I WAS IN THE FEB.66 CLASS. RETIRED IN 86, AND MOVED AFTER MY LAST CHILD GRADUATED FROM COLLEGE TO THE SUNNY CLIMES OF SUMMERVILLE SOUTH CAROLINA. TO THOSE THAT REMEMBER ME, PREPARE FOR A SHOCK!.... I AM NOW A PASTOR OF A CHURCH IN CHARLESTON S.C. I AM A DOCTORAL CANDIDATE AND BY AUGUST, I EXPECT TO HAVE RECEIVED MY DOCTORATE DEGREE. RETIREMENT HAS BEEN BEAUTIFUL, AND I HAVE SO MANY PLEASANT MEMORIES OF THE OFFICERS I HAD THE PLEASURE OF WORKING WITH. MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU HEALTHY.

02/21/02 - HELLO TRANSIT BROTHERS AND SISTERS, MY NAME IS BILL SCHWAB. I WORKED IN DISTRICTS 4,5,3, AND SCS. I RETIRED IN MAY OF 2000. I JOINED TPD IN MARCH OF 1970. I AM CURRENTLY WORKING AS AN INVESTIGATOR FOR THE NYS ATTORNEY GENERAL. I FINISHED  MY CAREER AS A DETECTIVE IN THE BROOKLYN  DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S
SQUAD. ONE THING I LEARNED FROM THE MERGE WAS THAT AS   TRANSIT COPS WE WERE  REALLY A FAMILY. I DON'T MISS THE JOB BUT I DO MISS ALL THE FRIENDS I MADE OVER THE LAST THIRTY YEARS. THANK GOD FOR GUYS LIKE LOUIE HOLLANDER THAT KEEP
US ALL IN TOUCH WITH EACH OTHER. I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM SOME OF MY OLD FRIENDS. MY E-MAIL ADDRESS IS
WJS1947@AOL.COM

02/17/02 – Luke Scarangello, Paul Murphy and many more.  I was always proud to belong to the best.  The NYC Transit Police Departme

Hi Lou.  The site is great.   Reading all the names really brings back great memories, God bless them all.  I retired from the 120 Detective Squad in 1997.

The merge really sread all of us apart.  I am back with the city.  I work as an investigator with the NYC Housing Authority.  Still living on Staten Island I get to see the old timers now and again.  I try to attend as many retirement parties as possible.  I was at the Nassau Shields Dance honoring the Police and Fire heros from 911.  The turnout was great.  I got to see alot of old faces.  Al Farina, Mike LaVell, Pete Caso Joe Pittaro

nt.  We were all special.  We are a special breed.  Hope to see you soon.

02/16/02 - Hello, Lou.  You know me. Bob McGuire class of June 21, 1965.  Worked out of Chambers ST. station on 8 P's with the other Bob Maguire from the same class when we first came out of the Academy or should I say Armory in Queens. The other Maguire used to get overtime and I used to get it credited to my record.  At that time, record keeping was not that good and overtime was only in time. But who was I to complain. In fact we use to end of with the same assignments when we had to do those 8 P's.  I worked in the Coney Island summer squad in 1966, another assignment the other Maguire put in for.  Even though our names are spelled differently.  Worked in Dist 2 in 1967 and Dist. 1 from 1968 to promotion in 1982 and then to Dist. 4. My last year, 1985, I worked as a Sgt. in the Bronx Warrant Squad in the 50 Pct until I came to the attention of Insp. Rosenthal.  Him and I did not get along too well.  So I decided to pack it in.  But I did leave my mark in the 50.  Transit cops worked there also and we were just as good if not better.  Official date of retirement was March 17, 1986, St. Pat's day of course.   Worked for 3 years as a real estate appraiser in upstate NY before moving to Florida. Living in Punta Gorda FL. and up to two weeks ago was working as the Director of Security and Safety at a state mental health facility. Some people have said it was an appropriate place for me.  My friend Gov. Bush closed the facility recently and now I have another state job doing the same thing for the Department of Juvenile Justice at a new facility.  Don't know how long I will last there.  It just the New York attitude that pops out on occasion.  Just building up my second pension time but would like to do 4 years.  Right now who knows. My E mail is on the list.   By the way, my cohort in crime, Richie Pra, aka scumbag/dirtbag, used to live here in Punta Gorda until 2 years ago when he divorced and moved to Jacksonville and remarried.   He works for a state legislator and is still nuts.  He was definitely a bad influence on me.  I still say it wasn't me.  I was normal.

02/15/02 - Jerry Jenkins (Uncle Jerry) I retired in September 1994. I worked
Districts 4/4A/30/Rescue Unit/and finally District 34 after being thrown out of the Rescue unit for being "A problem child".
I am now living in Palm Coast,Florida since 1994 and am now employed by Volusia County(Daytona Beach). I finally passed a sgt. test high enough to be promoted and have been a Corrections Sgt. since July and have almost seven years on the job. I send my best to all...........Jerry

02/12/02 - Dave Ingram, Retired '87.  Worked in Dist 33, 30 and 20.  PBA delegate in Dist 20 under the last non-criminal and very successful McKechnie administration.  Moved to Ormond Beach Fl in 1988 and never looked back.   Married my first wife Kathy in '91, I still introduce her that way. Now a Deputy Dawg for Volusia County FL. since 1999, loving it.  Camaraderie no where close as it was with Transit.  Now on the most successful committee in Transit history, the Florida Reunion group that you run so masterfully. Glad to be part of TRANSIT again, thank you.  We now know afterwards what we had then.  Never to be repeated, duplicated or equalled.  Transit Forever.

9-11-01 May they all rest in peace.  May we never forget.  God Bless America.

02/10/02 - My name is William O'Connor I worked in Dist 02 in 93-94 then was transferred to D-34 where I am currently assigned . My father was William O'Connor #3581 former Transit Police then Transferred to FDNY where he was killed in the line of Duty in the 1978 Walbaums Fire. The reason I am writing this is because back in 1978 I was to young to understand what the Transit Police was all about. It  wasn't till after I got on that I understood that the Transit Police wasn't just a job it was a Family it was unfortunate that we had to merge. Well, any way I was writing to see if maybe you remembered anyone who is still around that helped my Family out in there time of need back than I never got a chance to Thank anyone for all they did especially for retiring his shield. I cant tell you how much it meant to me when they handed that shield over to me when I graduated the Academy. You dont have to post this Just if you talk to anyone who was involved please give them my E-Mail address. It would be nice to talk to a few of the guys that worked with him as a Police Officer.

Good work.  Drop a line and say hello

01/25/02 - Bruce Rupp, It's been a long time since we worked together in D-34. I came on the job in May 1974, was laid off in June 1975, reinstated in April 1979 & retired in August 1994. As everyone says, I don't miss the job but I do miss the people.

I keep myself busy by preparing tax returns from late January to mid April. Of the 400 or so clients I have, approximately 85% are either active or retired police. The benefit of working & seeing old friends at the same time has kept me healthy & satisfied. If anyone out there needs questions answered about taxes they can feel free to call or e-mail me. There's no charge for questions. If anyone is looking for a good tax preparer I'm always looking for more clients. I'm looking forward to getting down to the reunion this year now that there will be more space. Until then, hoping everyone a very healthy & happy new year.

01/10/01 - Hello Louie: My name is Anthony Lubrano and I served 29 years in the Transit PD prior to the merge. Afterwards, I served 5 years with the NYPD, first in Patol Borough  Brooklyn South, then as the XO in the 67 Pct. My last two years on the job were as commanding officer of the 111th Pct in Bayside, Queens. I have to honestly say that I enjoyed my time in "the street". I met and worked with  wonderful men and women in the PD, but my heart never forgot the memory of the great cops with whom I served with in theTransit PD.
When crime was inching upward in my command, I would often tell my precinct staff that if I had just a few of the Transit officers with whom I served in the past with me in the 111th, we would make it the safest precinct in the city. I wished I could have been able to put those Transit cops into the new RMP's I had at the 111th for them to patrol in; to see them police a precinct with beautiful homes and commercial establishments; to protect people who truly loved the cops. Ah, I wish I could have been able to deliver that to them.
I often told my staff that they never had to work under the conditions that my former colleagues faced. There were times when I had the urge to ship some of my "stars' to Dist 32 for a month, to show them how real cops worked. And never did any of my 'stars' have to escort a prisoner through the male officers locker room to take them to the urinal, nor patrol alone, with no radio. Fortunately, there were few of these stars in the 111th. The overwehlming majority of the cops in the 111th Pct. would have made transit cops proud to call them brother.
I had 2 former Transit cops with me and they were the cream of the crop. One a sergeant (Greg Reutter-D33) and one a police officer (Eileen Mosca, nee Hunt-D34).
I thoroughly enjoyed the photos of your recent reunions. I loved seeing, once
again, the faces of Ed Nygren, Artie Runnions, Dennis Ahern, Floyd Holloway, Rich Purcell, and Ken Bucalo.  I work with the daughter of Morris Sam now and gave her the phots of her dad. Seeing the faces of those cops brought back a flood of memories. I remember Jimmy Boone from D-33 and the softball games we
played in East NY. Lenny Hershkovitz from D4, Patty O'toole and Dennis McCann from the one house. Wonderful memories.
My very best to all. And I again commend you for a fantastic web site.
Great Job. With best wishes. Anthony Lubrano

01/09/02 - Sal Veneziano.  I came on the Job when alot of you guys where in the middle of your careers.  The Guys I met before the merge were the best.  I had a great time back then.  I've retired myself and live in Manalapan NJ.  I still see alot of the old CWPS and JFK guys.  We still meet once a month for dinner

01/08/02 - Daniel L. Reid, retired from the New York Transit Police Oct. 22,1985. I am now working for the Government and I will retire from this job end of this year.

01/08/02 - Gordon L. Casazza  Hello, Great way to keep in contact. I worked Dist 33, 35a, 22a, 35a  (again), CSPS and ended up in 32. I was retired in '77. Started a second career with American Airlines working at JFK, LGA and moved to Dallas, TX. I retired (package) as a ramp supervisor in '95. With my flight benefits my wife (Kathy) did some traveling. After 7 months I realized I was not ready to stay
home. Presently I work at Ford dealership in the service dept. Oh to turn back the hands of time! I've worked with some good people over the past years, but none
like the guys from NYTPD.

01/08/02 – Pat Walsh.  Hi Lou, you have done a great job with this site. It is really nice to see how those of us who served together are doing.  I retired in Dec-79 from Dist 1 where I had spent most of my career-a short stay in Dist 3, but 12 of 14 yrs in Dist-1 the original super command. Worked 8p's,rotating,anti crime  and spent time as midnight homepost. Since retirement on ordinary disability I became a journeyman electrician going thru an abbreviated apprenticeship program(3 yrs) and have worked in the trade since. I work for IBEW Local 25 on Long Island and want to retire in about 3 years. Will the help of God I may accomplish it. Have not seen many guys since-Artie Sullivan was a good friend until his untimely and sad death-along with that of Jimmy Kearney. I saw a lot of the guys at Jimmy’s wake for the first time since retirement Have not been to a reunion but am planning to attend this year. Keep up the site-I visit often Thanks again-Pat Walsh

01/07/02 - Wayne Healey Lou,  Great site! It's nice to see what us old timers are doing. I retired in Jan. of 98 from the 13th Pct. as a Lt. Got out on the heart bill and doing o.k. I've worked some different jobs but nothing could match life in Transit.

I ran for Public Office in our Town and won by a large margin. I must have been out of my mind. I would rather face a platform full of skells then some of these politicians. Most of them should have been collared and most of them deserve to be collared, they lie cheat and steal, and could care less about who they serve.

I can't tell you how much I miss the Job at least some of the people you worked with were on the level.

Margaret (also a retired transit cop) and I have done a good deal of traveling when the college tuition wasn't getting in the way. Upstate here in God's country we play some golf and do a lot of hunting. We keep busy doing a lot of volunteer work and my job with the town. Marge has had 7 operations from her car accident and is doing the best she can. She is a shadow of the tough girl I met years ago, (but then again we all are) but I'm gonna keep her.

Hope to see you all at the reunion. Stay well; keep 9-11-01 in your prayers always.

If anyone needs help in my neck of the woods don't hesitate to contact me.  Right now the local P.D. likes me,  I represented the Town and just got them a 3 year contract. See, I did learn something from Bill Mckechnie, Bob Ganley and Mr. Jerry McCarthy.

Keep up the good work and God Bless                  Wayne Healey

01/06/02 - Hi Guys!  Thank you Louie for this great idea.  I love you very much.  Well, for those who remember me, my name is Mike DiSanza, better known as "Mouse."  I worked in District 2 and City Wide.  I am married 33 years to my lovely
wife, Ann.  I have four children and four grandchildren.  I retired in l989
and have not worked a regular job since.  However, I have traveled to 36
countries on four continents: South America, North America, Africa and Europe
(Eastern and Western).  I am the president of International Cops for Christ
(a Christian Fellowship of policemen).  I believe for every Transit cop no
matter what your religion is you need to know this message: God's plan for
salivation for everybody is that Jesus died for the sins of the world.
Believe that by faith in your heart and you shall be saved.  This year I will
probably be traveling to 6 countries to tell them this GOOD NEWS.  We are
living in exciting times.  Jesus is coming soon!  If you are interested, in
knowing about the END TIMES, just e-mail me at :
MNDCFC@acopforchrist.com

You can also check out our web page:  www.acopforchrist.com

Jesus and I love you all very much.     Mike

01/05/02 - Joe Miller, I was appointed in October 73 and worked in various Districts and assignments, D-11, D-1, D-4, AIU, Health Services, E&S, K-9, and finally D-2 condo.  Retired as a Sgt. in February 92 and moved to Hawaii, where I briefly worked as an Investigator for the State Attorney General.  After a few months I transferred to the Hawaii Dept. of Public Safety as an Investigator assigned to IA.  It was a very interesting job as we investigated all complaints in state law enforcement as well as state corrections.  As Hawaii is an island state, and our offices were based on Oahu, I would fly from island to island depending on case load and assigned complaints.  After so many years of riding subways to assignments, it was really unique to get on a jet and fly for 30 minutes or so to a neighbor island to work for the day.  In June of 1994 I was promoted to Chief of Investigations/Internal Affairs where I served for about 3 years.  In June 1997, I was offered the position as Chief of Security for the brand new Hawaii Convention Center which was scheduled to open in 1998.  I left the Dept. of Public Safety and accepted the Chief of Security job at the Convention Center where I currently work.  It was a great opportunity to set up a security program from scratch with a great budget to boot.  After 10 years here, Hawaii is a beautiful place to live and work, a far cry from the subways of NYC, but not far enough away to ever forget my brave brothers and sisters who made the ultimate sacrifice 9/11/01.   Over the years I've been visited here by a few retirees.  A big Mahalo (thank you) to Lou Hollander who does an outstanding job of keeping all of us informed and up to date.  Louie, did you learn these skills at the CACA club or E&S?  My promise to Louie is that one of these days I will make the reunion in Florida.

01/05/02 - William McKechnie, I came on the job in June of 65 worked in Dists 1  and 4 then TEU from which I was elected the youngest president of the PBA. I was honored AND proud to have served in that position for eleven years which makes me the longest serving president of the PBA. I say this because with the merge that part of our history will never change. Those were the best at times and most difficult of my career. With my executive board I like to think we made a difference. To this day I believe we were right in opposing the merge and I like to think if we were still there, we could have stopped it again. I retired from Transit in 1990 and went to work as the Chief executive assistant to the District attorney of Kings County. My wife as many of you know worked as the commissioner for the States Crime Victims Board and then went with the Guiliani administration where she served as the Commissioner for Community Development and finally as the City's Taxi and Limousine Commission. This past summer we both retired moved from the upper east side into our summer home in the Poconos . We are currently spending the next five months in Florida looking to see where we will settle here and fit into the lifestyle of snowbirds. Louie, this is a great idea and you should be commended for it.  Every retired transit cop should try to make your reunions, they are well run and nothing short of fantastic. Please remember Pat Townsend in your prayers. and remember the City had it's finest, it's boldest, it's bravest. But only one could be the BEST and that was us.

01/05/02 – Roger Rodgriguez, retired in 85', left Staten Island, N.Y. in 86' and I haven't been back since.  I finally gave up my NFL Giant tickets to Rich Armstrong (Ret/Det) for which he is forever grateful.  I moved to Florida (Bradenton) in 86' and you couldn't get me out of here with a crane.   I am employed as a Senior Probation Supervisor with Manatee County and I love the job. I already have enough time in to retire and pension off again (What a great Country!!!!!!!!!!).  Just recently I received a packet from the NYPD DEA Retiree's.  On their ID card logo they write "The Greatest Detectives in the World".  What a pretentious crock.  I worked with Detectives such as Jerry Gallagher, Ed Clair, Rich Commesso, Jerry Molloy, Juan Caban, Bobby Lonergan and a host of others.  We had shields that said New York City Transit Police, and I firmly believe that they were the greatest. Thanks for the website, Louie.    See you Sept/02 at the Tradewinds.

01/05/02 - Hello Lou, Mike McKeever,  Seeing your photo on nyctpflare, brought back some good memories when I worked in Dist 01 and then again in equipment & supply with you. Worked in Districts 1, 3, 4 and MBTF. I visit your site often and I applaud you for this new addition. 2/28/01  Jerry Cox, Hi Lou, This is a great web page to see what going on in the brotherhood of the Transit Police of New York City.  I was retired in December of 1997 under the Heart bill. Since then I have kept busy by working on my computer and trying to write a cook book. I was a chef before I was a police officer.
I have also been traveling a lot too. My lifetime partner Dennis teaches computer security all over the world and I sometimes get to go with him. I have been to Asia a few times and Hawaii. But mostly I have traveled here in the good old USA with him.
I started in D-33 in 1982, then in late 1983 I was transferred to Citywide Plain Clothes Task Force in D-31. Then we became the Man/Bx Plain Clothes Task Force at 42 St. and 8 Av. in 1985. Then in 1991 I was transferred to D-02 and in 1992 I was transferred to Crime Analysis at 300 Gold St. Later we moved to 370 Jay St. In May of 1997 I was transferred to Legal Matters at 1 Police Plaza and was retired in December of 1997.
I live in Forest Hills and keep in touch with some of the Transit Police Officers I worked with over the years. I was just elected to the position of Executive Director for the Gay Officers Action League here in New York City. I wish all my brothers and sisters well in the coming New Year.

12/27/01 - Tom Natoli Lou, Great idea on this! Site is getting better every day.

Left Dist-01 in 1991 after 5 years for the nice living of upstate NY.
Worked in a small PD in a very political town until the end of 1993. Became
secretary of the police union and was a very outspoken adversary of the
management and the politicians in town during contract negotiations.
Forcibly retired (via article 75) after that. Worked Security for a
hospital in Rochester for 5 years all the while trying to get back on the
job. (Civil Service not very friendly to people discharged via article 75).
Went back to school on my employer and earned a degree in Computers. I am
now a Senior Help Desk Technician for a great company and love it. I also
still work part time as a bouncer on a psych ward just to keep in shape. I
have 3 wonderful children and 2 not so wonderful ex-wives. Should have
never left Transit. What was I thinking?

12/24/01 - Frank Wakely Lou,There is not much to write, but I'll recap the last 17 years to the best of my bad memory. Upon retiring in 84, I went full time into the limo business. In 87, I was lucky enough to get elected Chief in the Floral Park FD, something I always had dreamed of. After serving for 4 years, I retired to Baltimore, MD. Down there, I hooked up with the Homicide, Life On The Streets, NBC show, and worked there for 37 shows, portraying, of all things, a uniformed Baltimore City Police Officer. That led to three films, including Enemy Of The State, with Gene Hackman and Will Smith.
After returning to NYC in 98, I worked for Channel 7 Eyewitness News, then finally packed it in, in 07/01. Now, relaxing with four sons,(one on the job) and six grandchildren. No longer married, I travel a lot. Say Hello to Eddie Martinez, D20/AC
Best Wishes to all,
Frank Wakely, D-20; FEU; StakeOuts; D-20 Anti Crime

12/18/01 - Jimmy McCarron. Hi Lou, been reading about some of our past members Where are they now!, Really think it was a good idea. Always wondered what happened to some of my friends from the job, after I left. I was appointed to Transit in April 4, 1972, assigned to District 4 @ Chambers St A line.. Moved to Union Square when Dist 4 moved there in 1978, then transferred to the New District # 2 (condo police unit) when it opened in the 80's. I Retired from Dist # 2 in March of 1992, and am now living in the Pocono's, Canadensis P.A. I am currently working for Pocono Medical Center as Senior Security Officer , and have worked there for past 9 yrs. I do most of the training for new officers, and enjoy the work. It's almost as if I never left the job. Still have to deal with EDP's, but find the job rewarding. Would like to hear from some of my old friends!. Regards to all, have a healthy and prosperous holiday season! Regards              Jim McCarron

12/17/01 - Tom Mullan - I retired in 1985, as a Patrol Lt. in Dist 20.  I was part of the famous class of '65.  I left Transit to accept a position with New York Life Insurance in Syosset.  In 1990 I moved to S/W Florida and presently I am a Financial Advisor with American Express Financial Advisors in Ft. Myers, Fl.  My position entails preparing financial plans for clients and them implementing that plan with stocks, mutual funds, annuities and or insurance as needed by the client.  I am still in the tax business, but stepped out of that business in 1999 due to accepting a position in management with American Express.  Within a short time I realized that management was not for me, so I resumed my financial practice, which permits me more time to acquire and service new and existing clients.  If any of my old tax clients want to reach me, please e-mail me or call my office (941)985-0772.  My fax is (941)985-0622. I think that this feature may become the most read article on your website.   I wish each and every member of Transit, a Hold & Happy Christmas, and a most prosperous year in 2002. Thomas J Mullan

since April of 1991 I have been a certified police officer with the state of Florida. i work part time as a wildlife reserve officer with the Game and Fresh water Fish Commission ( now called the Fish and Wildlife Commission). it has been a great experience for me. instead of subway patrol i patrol the everglades on an airboat. it's noisier than a train but the air is cleaner. I also since the merge with the Marine Patrol get to patrol the ocean waters off the Florida coast. I get to go places and see things that people who have spent their whole lives here never get to see. As of the latter part of 1998 I became a full time police officer joining the Gulf Stream Police Dept. i still remain as a part time officer with the state. both jobs are very interesting and rewarding...............David S. Ginsberg

12/12/01 – Rudy Granger.  Hey Louis, I started in '74 and retired in '94. Yeah, the where are they now section on your website sounds like a good idea. I've been going through your sign in page periodically and grabbing email addresses of guys I knew and worked with and we keep in touch. Well here's my story, and I'm sticking to it! I'm Rudy Granger from the class of March, '74.  All is well with me.  I think I was one of the first to retire normally from our class... 20 and out! I took a year sabbatical before getting bored and then attended Devry Institute and received a degree in telecommunications management then went to work for about 4 years in private industry at Credit Suisse First Boston in their Network Section. I ended up retiring from private industry because it seemed a little too cut throat for me and now I'm freelancing by using my PC Geek Skills from home, taking care of my mother and enjoying my grandchildren, Julia 4 1/2, and Nico 1 1/2 years old.  Everyone have a joyous Holiday Season, and a Healthy New Year!

Peace, Rudy
